| Welcome to Soccerfest 2008! Soccerfest is a celebration of youth soccer on Whidbey Island. This activity is part soccer tournament and soccer carnival. Activities include our end of spring season tournament for all spring teams, lots of food, awards and prizes, and soccer skills stations for all members of the family to try. This spring season Soccerfest will be held at the South Whidbey Sports Complex on Saturday, June 14th beginning at 9 am and running until 2 pm. Tournament: All teams in the WISL spring league will be participating. Admission is free for all teams and spectators. All teams will play at least two games regardless of wins or loses. All games are scheduled to start on the hour and will be 40 minutes in length with five minute halftimes. Consider the regular season training for the main event and this is the main event! Expect coaches and players to be more focused and trying harder. The kids will love the more competitive environment and help prepare them for the upcoming fall season. On the Carnival side we will have four different soccer skills stations set up for anybody regardless of age to test your soccer skills. This will be fun for the players to challenge their parent's, siblings, and even coaches. Awards will be given to participants scoring the highest in each division. Everybody is encouraged to participate! The kids will enjoy seeing the adults struggling so don't be shy give them a try! Below is a quick description of each: Juggling: One ticket buys you up to 5 attempts at juggling a soccer ball. We will be counting the highest number juggled as well as the highest total score of a five attempts. Shooting Power: Kick your hardest into a goal and have a radar gun clock the exact speed of your shot. One ticket buys two attempts. If the grass is wet be careful! Passing accuracy: Four cones are set up about 2 soccer ball widths between each. The closer your pass to the middle the higher your score. One ticket buys 5 kicks and the total score is recorded. Highest possible score is 25 but any score over 15 is unlikely unless your name is Beckham. Obstacle Course: Sprint, dribble, shoot, run a slalom course, shoot again, and sprint again. Sounds easy? It's not. The course length will be adjusted based on age division so there will be something fun to try and watch all morning long. Each attempt will be timed to the hundreds of a second. One ticket gives you one try. (Hint: Your second attempt will be your fastest!). Games start at 9am. Soccer skills stations will open between 9-10am and close at 1 pm. All Championship games start at 1pm. Food and beverages will be open and available for most of the tournament. We will be looking for volunteers to help with parking, food and beverage, ticket sales, skills stations, and running the sidelines with flags to help the officials with out of bounds. If you would like to volunteer to help out please let us know when you arrive. This event runs regardless of weather conditions. Dress appropriately and bring sun block for the kids. See you all on Soccerfest Saturday morning! |
